ooh honey honey
Yesterday was the last farmers market in the valley; we went and spent way too much money on honey, pottery, jam, lavender and the best tomatoes I've had all summer. Yum. Yes, we could buy non-local versions of these things cheaper at a grocery store, but luckily we both feel like it's important to support local farmers and artisans. In this valley, land still being used for agriculture is becoming rare--people make a lot more money growing mcmansions than food. That's why we're always happy to find people we can buy or trade food with. Surprisingly, we've found valley sources for raspberries, grass-fed beef, eggs, honey, apples, eggs, greens, and garlic, plus other random vegetables when people have extra we can buy. Not bad for high-altitude dry land. On top of the purchases at the farmers market, they had a climbing wall and bouncy house, so Sweet Pea was thrilled. She made it more than halfway up the big climbing wall, and loved the "ride" down. Go girl!
In other news, in honor of Sweet Pea's upcoming 6th birthday, hubby turned her IKEA bed over while she and I were at church. That turned it from a regular-height bed with a high canopy into a sort of bunkbed. Now there is a 3-foot high space under the bed that can be used for an extra mattress or play space. At the moment, it is play space. She immediately set about making it HERS: parking the doll stroller and carseat, and her rolling suitcase against the wall, and using scraps of fabric as "rugs". Tonight she was impatient to get to go to bed in the "new" bed, but then too excited to sleep. Happy girl.
